From these Gates emerged magical beasts so powerful that humanity's current technology could not withstand them, and it seemed mankind was on the brink of extinction. Those who hunted beasts with superhuman strength soon became known as 'Hunters,' and nations established 'Hunter Associations' to manage these Hunters under a more systematic framework. As if to restore the balance of the world, five 'Monarch Stones' were discovered within the Gates. Monarch Stones can only be absorbed by S-rank Hunters, and each stone was imbued with the power of Fire, Water, Lightning, Ice, or Earth.
