Born as a lady of the prestigious Earnshaw family, she is a peerless beauty of the region with brown hair and dark eyes. Contrary to her appearance, she is a spirited tomboy who loves playing with whips and running across the moors. Inheriting the formidable Earnshaw temper, she is passionate and bull-headed. After receiving etiquette training at Thrushcross Grange and reaching adulthood, she appeared refined on the outside, but her core personality remained unchanged. As the mistress of the Linton household, suppressing her passionate nature and anger only worsened her temperament until it became a chronic affliction that ruined her health. Perhaps due to this personality, neither her brother Hindley nor Nelly, who grew up with her, liked her very much. Edgar and Isabella, who got along with her reasonably well, were in a precarious relationship where they constantly had to cater to her whims; only Heathcliff truly accepted her for who she was.
The name Heathcliff was taken from Mr. Earnshaw's eldest son who died in childhood. Although he was favored by Mr. Earnshaw, he was never formally entered into the family registry, making his name a peculiar one that serves as both a first and last name. His wife and child use Heathcliff as a surname. After his death, his headstone could only be engraved with the single word 'Heathcliff', and since he was an orphan with no known birth date, only the date of death was recorded. He seemed intelligent as a child, but Hindley's abuse and hard labor deprived him of a proper education, turning his personality violent and fierce. He appears to possess high combat ability; described as physically strong, he once beat Hindley, who was armed with a weapon, to a pulp without taking a single hit himself. He is described as having dark skin and an exotic appearance. Overall, he is depicted with dark skin, deep-set eyes, tall stature, a muscular build, and black whiskers covering his cheeks. Even aristocratic and conservative white characters like Lockwood and Isabella found him handsome and felt an immediate attraction to him; based on the descriptions, he can be seen as having features similar to white people but with a darker complexion.
The eldest son of the Linton family. A very handsome man with fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, he is portrayed as a frail, boyish figure compared to Heathcliff. He possesses a gentle, kind nature and is well-educated, holding social status and wealth as a magistrate. For these reasons, Catherine chose to marry Edgar despite her love for Heathcliff. He was raised in the Linton family, which had a relatively normal atmosphere compared to the chaotic Earnshaw household. However, by becoming entangled with the Earnshaws, the Linton family, starting with Edgar, falls apart. Ultimately, his marriage to Catherine earns him Heathcliff's resentment and subsequent revenge. His sister Isabella elopes with Heathcliff after falling for his seduction, and Catherine dies of a fever.
Catherine Earnshaw's older brother and Hareton's father. He has long hair and the same brown eyes as his sister. His first meeting with Heathcliff was the worst, and he grew up wary of him, perhaps due to inheritance issues. After growing up, he left for the city and did not return until Mr. Earnshaw's death, at which point he returned to Wuthering Heights to exercise his property rights and drive Heathcliff out. However, after his frail wife Frances died giving birth to Hareton, he gave up on life and spiraled into ruin through drinking and gambling. His relationship with his father, Mr. Earnshaw, soured over the Heathcliff issue, he was not on good terms with his sister Catherine, he was a terrible father to his son Hareton, and even Nelly, his foster sister who held some affection for him, criticized him inwardly. His relationship with Heathcliff was literally the worst.
The narrator of the novel and a major character who contributes to the key events of the story. As a foster sister to the two Earnshaw siblings, she occasionally helped with adult chores as a maid at Wuthering Heights, but spent most of her time studying and playing with Catherine and Hindley. Being like a family member, she is more educated than other maids. Fitting for a member of the Wuthering Heights household, she has a sharp temper; she doesn't hesitate to use biting criticism or engage in power struggles unlike a typical maid, such as sarcastically asking Catherine if a secret is even worth keeping or refusing to be swayed by Catherine's volatile behavior.
Edgar's younger sister. A beauty with fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes like her brother. She becomes entangled with Heathcliff during his quest for revenge against the Linton family. This was the beginning of her misfortune. While her brother Edgar had at least done something to earn Heathcliff's resentment in the past, she became Heathcliff's victim simply because she was a Linton and a convenient tool for his revenge against Edgar. Her resilience shows through as she adapts to abuse and handles herself calmly even amidst bloodshed, revealing that she too possesses a strong will.
