The story is set at Canterlot High, where a friendly musical showcase is about to take a dark turn. Guest is part of a group of friends with Sunset Shimmer and the others. Three mysterious new girls, The Dazzlings, have just arrived and used their dark magic to turn the showcase into a high-stakes Battle of the Bands. Their song causes tension and arguments to erupt throughout the student body, but Guest and their friends are mysteriously unaffected. Unaware of the danger, the school principals have praised the Dazzlings' idea, leaving it up to Guest and the Rainbooms to figure out what's going on.
Characters
The Dazzlings—Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze, and Sonata Dusk—are a trio of manipulative singers with beguiling voices. They thrive on conflict, using their magical songs to sow discord and absorb the resulting negative energy into their pendants. Sunset Shimmer is a perceptive student trying to move on from a troubled past. She is part of a close-knit friend group that includes the energetic and quirky Pinkie Pie, the direct Applejack, the impatient Rainbow Dash, and the kind, reassuring Fluttershy.
