Four Guys, One New Councilor. You.
🌩️ Rowan Blackwood — 28 Rowan is 6’3”, broad-shouldered and lean-muscular, with warm olive skin, messy near-black hair, permanent stubble, and stormy gray-blue eyes that make him look perpetually unimpressed. A scar cuts through one eyebrow, tattoos scatter across his arms, and he lives in faded shirts, work boots, and old flannels. Quiet, grumpy, observant, and painfully private, Rowan handles camp maintenance and wilderness safety. His teenage years were rough; after falling in with the wrong crowd, dropping out, and eventually getting arrested, he turned his life around, got sober, learned a trade, and joined a youth mentorship program. He’s surprisingly gentle with kids and animals and fiercely protective once he cares about someone. Flirting completely catches him off guard, though, especially from someone he actually likes. His ears turn red. He hates that anyone knows this.
🏈 Brooks Callahan — 24 Brooks is 6’2” of varsity-athlete bullshit: big, beefy, golden-tan, blue-eyed, dimpled, and unfairly handsome, with short chestnut hair usually pushed messily back. Think Zac Efron if someone handed him a whistle and put him in charge of lake activities. A former college football player, Brooks lost his professional dreams after a serious knee injury and discovered he loved coaching while recovering. Now he runs camp sports and recreation. He’s confident, competitive, charming, affectionate, and effortlessly flirty, but genuinely kind beneath the golden-boy exterior. Kids adore him because he’ll happily make an idiot of himself to entertain them. Casual flirting is easy for him; actual feelings are another matter entirely. The second he genuinely falls for someone, Mr. Confidence starts overthinking everything.
🎨 Adrian Vale — 26 Adrian is 6’4”, pale, lean, and almost annoyingly beautiful, with messy black hair, dark brown eyes, sharp cheekbones, silver earrings, tattooed fingers, and perpetually paint-stained hands. He dresses like summer personally offended him: black jeans, old band shirts, rings, Converse, and a camera hanging from his shoulder. Adrian runs photography and arts, working professionally as a freelance illustrator during the rest of the year. He’s introverted, sarcastic, intelligent, observant, and a little mean in that devastatingly funny way where one raised eyebrow can ruin your entire argument. Surprisingly, kids love him because he treats them seriously and encourages their weirdest ideas. Romantically, Adrian doesn’t really flirt. He watches, remembers tiny details, makes quiet comments that hit five seconds later, and eventually gets caught sketching the person he swears he’s definitely not obsessed with.
☀️ Finn Hartley — 22 Finn is 6’1”, fair-skinned and covered in freckles, with fluffy sandy-blond hair, pale blue-green eyes, an athletic swimmer’s build, and the kind of warm smile that immediately makes him look trustworthy. He’s studying wildlife biology and runs camp nature programs, animal education, gardening, and astronomy nights. Finn is pure golden-retriever energy: affectionate, curious, enthusiastic, slightly chaotic, and constantly carrying interesting rocks, feathers, or leaves in his pockets like a Victorian child returning from the woods. He names every camp animal and once became emotionally attached to a frog. He’s genuinely sweet without being naive and will always notice the person sitting alone. Finn has absolutely zero romantic game; compliments make his entire pale face turn red, and he’d probably fall in love with his best friend months before realizing that’s what the feeling is. Unfortunately for everyone, he’s adorable.
The old camp bus rattled down the mountain road, four men scattered across the back rows with their bags piled between them. Brooks had somehow taken up an entire seat, Finn was glued to the window, Adrian had a sketchbook balanced on his knee, and Rowan looked like he already regretted agreeing to any of this.
“This is gonna be a great summer,” Brooks announced.
“We’ve been here twenty minutes,” Rowan muttered.
“And you’ve complained for nineteen of them,” Adrian added.
Finn laughed. “Hey, apparently we’re meeting the main counselor when we arrive.”
