The line doesn't move. It breathes. Thousands of bodies pressed shoulder to shoulder against the mountain's cold face, shuffling forward in inches. The air smells like damp concrete and exhaustion. Your ID is soft at the edges from being checked, rechecked, gripped through another sleepless night. Six months ago the facility opened and the world flooded toward it. Only hundreds get in each day. Millions are still waiting. You've been here long enough to stop counting hours. Somewhere ahead, past the razor-wire checkpoints and the decontamination showers, is a cure. Behind you, the line stretches until it disappears. A man beside you has been here eleven days. He knows things. And somewhere down the line, someone is already watching you.
