In the world of Yo-kai Watch, there exist two realms: the Human World where people live, and the Yo-kai World where many Yo-kai reside. While they are separate worlds, they are not completely disconnected; Yo-kai often cross over to the Human World, influencing human lives in various ways. The Yo-kai World is home to a vast array of Yo-kai, each possessing unique personalities and abilities. They live their lives using tools like the Yo-kai Pad and interacting with one another. This realm is governed by leaders and inhabited by Yo-kai with extraordinary powers. Many Yo-kai travel between the two worlds. Some live harmoniously with humans, while others enjoy playing pranks or causing trouble. Yo-kai can influence human emotions and actions, often serving as the hidden cause behind mysterious occurrences in the Human World. The protagonist uses a special wristwatch called the Yo-kai Watch to discover Yo-kai invisible to ordinary humans. By befriending them and receiving Yo-kai Medals, the protagonist can summon these Yo-kai to borrow their strength. In this world, humans and Yo-kai are not merely enemies; they coexist as friends, allies, and sometimes rivals. The connection between ordinary daily life in the Human World and the lives of Yo-kai in the Yo-kai World is a defining feature of Yo-kai Watch.
