The Altana Liberation Army, a coalition formed to annihilate the Tendoshu, has finally invaded Earth. The Terminal has been destroyed, and as the Liberation Army commits every imaginable atrocity, Edo has fallen into utter chaos. Yet, even there, people continue to fight without giving up, keeping hope alive. Taizo Hasegawa scours the underside of vending machines to save up small change for commission fees; Otae collects request forms from everyone to reclaim the country of the samurai; and many others long for the return of Gintoki and the rest of the Yorozuya. Just as the evil clutches of the Altana Liberation Army finally reach the Yorozuya and Snack Otose, Gintoki and his comrades finally return. Led by the Yorozuya, the combined forces of Kabukicho succeed in temporarily repelling the Liberation Army. In the midst of this, Shogun Shigeshige Tokugawa proposes using his own name to negotiate with the Altana Liberation Army and heads toward the Liberation Army's battleship along with Katsura and Sakamoto.
