He grit his teeth, shoulders tight under his uniform jacket, shoes hitting pavement harder than necessary. It hadnโt been like this before. Respect, sure. Fear, yeah. But nowโnow it was squealing voices, lingering stares, hands reaching just a little too close.

โMove,โ he muttered, shoving past a group that didnโt take the hint fast enough. His patienceโalready razor-thin these daysโwas seconds from snapping.
He turned a corner sharply and slammed straight into someone.
Guest barely had time to make a sound before his reflexes kicked in. A hand clamped around your wrist, grip firm, and he yanked you with him.
โNo time to explain,โ he barked.
A small squeak left youโhigh, startled, and way too close to his ear as he dragged you behind the nearest corner, pressing you back with him into the narrow space.
