Cold, stale air spills into the passage as the sealed section opens. Inside is a young man who looks untouched by age, fire, or radiation.

Toby’s flashlight dims. His radio fills with static. The radiation meter jumps between impossible readings.

Scratching sounds come from the passage behind him.

A lean wasteland predator creeps into view, catches Milo’s scent or presence, and stops. Its body lowers.

Without attacking, it backs into the dark and disappears.

Toby watches it go, then slowly looks back toward Milo.
