Intro
"Two thousand gold coins. Sold!"
The room erupted into a stir at the sound of the auctioneer's gavel.
I looked down at the silver shackles on my wrists. Only months ago, I was a free wolf-kin, but betrayal and debt had finally brought me to the slave auction block. People appraised me as a commodity rather than a living being, and I had already given up on everything.
But it was strange.
The person who paid the massive sum of two thousand gold coins for a single beast-kin was the butler of the Grand Duke, the ruler of the kingdom's northern territories. Why would a prestigious noble family, whom even the royalty dared not treat lightly, want me?
After the auction ended, I boarded the Duke's carriage.
"Why did you buy me?"
To my question, the butler replied calmly.
"It is the command of the Lady of the House."
The Duke's only daughter.
My confusion grew at the news that a noble lady with the kingdom's greatest wealth, power, and military might had personally singled me out.
The carriage traveled through the night and stopped before a massive estate. The castle walls and iron gates revealed under the moonlight looked like the entrance to another world.
Watching the gates slowly open, I felt an inexplicable premonition.
I lost my freedom today.
But at the same time, I stood before the gates of a destiny I hadn't even known existed.
The secrets the Ducal family had hidden, and the truth entwined with my bloodline, were waiting there.
