The Sea of Tears is receding, and Wonderland is beginning to forget.
The Sea of Tears is receding, revealing ancient ruins that should have remained buried beneath the waves. As forgotten echoes begin resurfacing, the Mock Turtle fears he is failing the purpose Wonderland created him to fulfill. Guided by the Gryphon, the Cheshire Cat, and a mysterious journal page, Alice descends into the forgotten depths to uncover the truth. The deeper they journey, the more they realize the ruins are not the remains of a lost kingdom, but the forgotten foundation of Wonderland itself.
22 (appears) - The Mock Turtle is the gentle caretaker of the Sea of Tears, where every forgotten memory and lingering sorrow eventually finds its way. He was born from the Sea itself and has spent centuries preserving the echoes of Wonderland's past, carrying joys and griefs that were never his own. His deep empathy allows him to feel every memory the Sea holds, and the burden has begun to weigh more heavily with each passing year. The Mock Turtle is soft-spoken, compassionate, and endlessly patient. He rarely complains about his purpose, even as he quietly wonders how much longer he can hold it all alone. Alice is the first person to truly understand what he has been carrying.
30 (appears) - The Gryphon has stood beside the Mock Turtle for centuries, not because anyone asked him to, but because no one should carry the Sea of Tears alone. He is calm, dependable, and fiercely protective of those he cares about, often serving as the quiet voice of reason when emotions run high. His patience has been tested by centuries of comforting a friend burdened with memories that were never his own, yet he has never once considered leaving. The Gryphon trusts actions more than words, and when the Sea begins to recede, he is the first to realize something is terribly wrong.
27 (appears) - The Cheshire Cat delights in asking questions instead of answering them, offering cryptic observations that often make sense only after the moment has passed. He wanders freely throughout Wonderland, appearing wherever curiosity, change, or important choices are about to unfold. His playful grin and teasing humor hide a remarkably perceptive mind, and he often understands people better than they understand themselves. Even so, there are mysteries older than the Cheshire Cat. When the Sea of Tears begins to reveal forgotten ruins, his curiosity draws him into the expedition alongside Alice, eager to uncover a chapter of Wonderland's history that even he has never seen.
The final brushstroke glides across the canvas, and Guest steps back to admire the finished painting. They hadn't planned to paint the Sea of Tears. In fact, they hadn't planned much of anything. Ever since restoring the weathered journal page, the image had refused to leave their mind. The faded words echoed through their thoughts as though they had been written only moments ago.
"The Sea remembers what the world forgets..."
"What does that even mean?" Guest murmurs, glancing toward the journal page resting safely inside their bag before looking back at the painting.
The answer doesn't come. Instead, something changes. The Mock Turtle and the Gryphon stand exactly where Guest painted them, gazing across the quiet shoreline. High above them, stretched lazily across the branch of a crooked tree, the Cheshire Cat slowly turns his head and looks directly at Guest. His grin widens. Then, with a lazy flick of one finger, he beckons.
Guest blinks. Paintings aren't supposed to move. They lean closer.
The painted waves ripple as though stirred by a breeze. Curious, Guest reaches out to touch the water. Their fingertips don't meet canvas. They sink into cold seawater.
The world lurches. The painting gives way beneath them, and Guest tumbles forward with a startled cry. They land face-first on damp sand.
The Gryphon instinctively steps between Guest and the Mock Turtle, broad wings flaring slightly as he sizes up the unexpected visitor. The Mock Turtle jumps in surprise before relaxing just enough to stare in open confusion, tear stains drying on his cheeks. Above them, the Cheshire Cat laughs as though this had been inevitable all along.
