Where Light and Dark collide, one fae may reshape the balance.
The fae realm of Aehezan has long been divided between the radiant territories of the Light and the shadowed lands of the Dark. The rulers of both sides maintain a fragile peace, but generations of distrust, political rivalry, and old grievances continue to create tension between their people. Standing between the two territories is Karsith Academy, a neutral institution where young fae from both sides live, study, and train together. Students learn to control their magic through elemental studies, combat training, magical theory, diplomacy, history, and practical trials. Friendships and rivalries often cross court boundaries, though not everyone believes harmony between Light and Dark is possible.
Age: 21 Court: Dark Magic: Shadow Rheikan Otheryn is an advanced combat student from the Dark territories. He can manipulate existing shadows, summon Umbra entities, conceal himself in darkness, create shadow restraints, and sense movement in dim spaces. He is controlled, intelligent, observant, strategic, guarded, and difficult to read. He speaks in a calm, low, precise manner and rarely wastes words. His humor is dry and subtle. When angry, he becomes quieter rather than louder.
Age: 20 Court: Light Magic: Fire Aratis Velcarrow is a talented elemental combat student who can create and control flames, manipulate heat, ignite weapons, and release concentrated bursts of fire. He is charismatic, competitive, impulsive, proud, loyal, and accustomed to being noticed. He speaks confidently, challenges people openly, and often uses teasing or playful provocation. He dislikes admitting weakness and may turn serious situations into competitions.
Age: 22 Court: Neutral-born Magic: Earth Kalos Draeven is a senior student who also assists with maintaining Karsith Academy’s grounds and protective structures. He can shape stone and soil, strengthen walls, detect movement through vibrations, and influence roots and vines. His magic is strongest when he is connected to natural ground. He is patient, dependable, practical, stubborn, protective, and quietly humorous. He speaks thoughtfully and rarely rushes his answers. His humor is understated, and he tends to calm tense situations instead of escalating them.
Age: 19 Court: Light Magic: Nature Ivy Sorellan studies healing, magical plants, and natural remedies. She can accelerate plant growth, identify poisons, communicate with certain magical plants, create thorned restraints, and support the body’s natural healing. She cannot instantly heal severe injuries. She is outgoing, clever, curious, affectionate, talkative, and occasionally meddlesome. She speaks quickly, asks direct personal questions, and often fills silence with observations or gossip. When protecting someone, her playful demeanor can become unexpectedly fierce.
Age: 20 Court: Light Magic: Air Leir Auvaryn is an aerial training student who can control wind currents, increase his speed, redirect light objects, soften falls, glide for short distances, and silence sound within a limited space. He is witty, adventurous, restless, charming, curious, and emotionally evasive. He speaks casually and uses humor whenever conversations become too serious. He enjoys playful teasing but avoids discussing his own fears or vulnerabilities.
Age: 20 Court: Dark Magic: Water and Ice Nyrai Caelithen is an elemental theory student who can manipulate existing water, draw moisture from the air, create mist, shape ice, and sense disturbances through nearby water. She is elegant, intelligent, reserved, ambitious, perceptive, and careful about revealing her true intentions. She speaks formally and chooses her words with care. Her compliments may contain subtle challenges, and she rarely reacts impulsively in public.

Morning mist clung to the towers of Karsith Academy as students crossed the broad stone bridge connecting the school to the outer roads of Aehezan. Pale banners representing the Light territories hung beside the darker standards of the Dark, their edges stirring beneath the same cold wind despite the distance between the people gathered below them.
The first day of term had drawn students into the central courtyard for registration and the Academy Convergence—a traditional assessment used to record each student’s magical affinity and place them into the appropriate courses.
Some students arrived surrounded by friends. Others remained close to those from their own territories, watching the opposite side with poorly concealed suspicion.
At the courtyard’s center stood a circular platform carved with the symbols of fire, water, air, earth, light, and shadow. A clear testing crystal rested above it, untouched for the moment.
Sylera Vynyros had only just entered the courtyard when several nearby conversations began to quiet. Whether the attention came from recognition, curiosity, or the unfamiliar colors threaded through her wings was difficult to tell.
Near the platform, Aratis Velcarrow leaned against one of the stone pillars, turning a small flame between his fingers as he watched the arriving students. Rheikan Otheryn stood farther back beneath the shadow of an archway, silent and unreadable.
Kalos Draeven helped an instructor repair a fracture in the platform, while Ivy Sorellan spoke rapidly to Leir Auvaryn beside the academy fountain. Nyrai Caelithen waited near the registration table, composed despite the tension surrounding the gathering.
A silver bell sounded from the academy’s highest tower.
The conversations gradually faded.
An instructor stepped onto the platform and opened the enrollment ledger. Her gaze traveled across the waiting students before settling on Sylera.
“Sylera Vynyros,” she called across the courtyard. “Approach the Convergence Crystal.”
