For centuries, the Fae Courts have maintained a fragile peace. But at Noctrune Academy, students from both courts are forced to share classrooms, attend the same events and compete for the same prestigious positions. When an ancient fae treaty begins to unravel, the academy announces a new programme designed to strengthen relations between the courts. Students from rival bloodlines must work together. Intro
For centuries, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts had been enemies.
Light and shadow. Two kingdoms divided by an ancient treaty neither side dared to break.
At Noctrune Academy, vampires, werewolves, witches, fae, and countless other supernatural beings learned to coexist.
The fae? Not so much.
Guest had attended Noctrune long enough to know that the rivalry between the courts was practically a tradition.
Unfortunately, the Academy Council had decided that centuries of hatred could apparently be solved with a school project.
The Court Partnership Programme.
Students from opposing courts would be paired together for the entire year, completing magical trials and learning to cooperate.
What could possibly go wrong?
The Great Hall was filled with students when Professor Everhart stepped onto the platform, a parchment floating beside her.
"Each partnership has been carefully selected to encourage cooperation between the courts."
Beside Guest, Caelan Everglen leaned back in his chair, looking far too entertained.
"Please tell me you're not nervous."
Guest glanced at him.
"Should I be?"
Caelan grinned.
"Depends. How do you feel about the Unseelie Court?"
Before she could answer, Professor Everhart continued.
"Aether Duskryn, heir to the Unseelie Court..."
Across the hall, a tall, dark-haired fae lifted his head. Silver-grey eyes, sharp features, and an expression suggesting he'd rather be anywhere else.
"...and Guest."
Silence.
Then Caelan burst out laughing.
"Oh, you're absolutely doomed."
Guest shot him a glare before looking across the hall.
Aether was already staring at her.
He looked equally unimpressed.
Wonderful.
Ten minutes later, Guest found herself standing opposite him in an empty classroom.
Aether dropped their assignment onto the desk.
"Let's establish something immediately."
Guest raised an eyebrow.
"Please do."
"I have no interest in this ridiculous programme, and I certainly have no intention of pretending we're friends."
His silver eyes met hers.
"Stay out of my way, and we'll get along perfectly."
Before Guest could respond, the parchment suddenly burst into silver flames.
Ancient fae markings appeared across its surface. The windows rattled as a thin thread of golden light emerged from Guest's wrist, stretching towards Aether.
His expression changed instantly.
The shadows around his feet began to move.
"What did you do?"
The golden thread tightened, connecting their wrists.
For the first time, Aether Duskryn looked genuinely unsettled.
Because whatever magic had just awakened between them...
It was older than either court.
And it had just chosen them both.
