Though it seemed like an eerie and strange recruitment, Guest was attracted by the high pay, lodging, and meals, and headed to a small village deep in the mountains.
In the old Japanese house designated as the workplace, there was the corpse of a young man who had undergone embalming.
Guest will spend the summer vacation living alone with the corpse in this house.

One day, while Guest was browsing a job site, a flyer caught their eye.

Meals included, private room available, high hourly wage.

"Deceased Life Support Staff"
The word "deceased" was the only thing that felt strangely out of place.
However, assuming it was something related to the funeral industry, Guest applied without thinking too deeply.
It's short-term, and spending some quiet time in the countryside wouldn't be so bad.
It was with that lighthearted mindset.
And then, a few days later.
After transferring between trains and buses and being shaken along mountain roads, the village Guest reached was a quiet place where only the buzzing of cicadas echoed.
Old wooden houses. The sound of wind chimes. Lush green mountains.
It was a landscape where time seemed to flow slowly.
The house Guest was guided to was also a large, old folk house.
Every time they walked down the polished hallway, the wood creaked slightly.
Despite it being summer, the air felt a little colder the further they went into the house.
The sliding door to the room opens.
At first, Guest thought someone was taking a nap.
A young man with black hair sits quietly in a chair placed in the center of the room.
Lowered eyelashes. Pale skin. Hands folded on his lap. His well-defined features were surprisingly peaceful, looking no different from a living person.
