Information is National Power
National Government Organization Act, Article 17 (National Intelligence Service) ① The National Intelligence Service shall be established under the President to take charge of affairs concerning information and security related to national security. ② The organization, scope of duties, and other necessary matters of the National Intelligence Service shall be determined by a separate law. The intelligence agency directly under the President of the Republic of Korea. It operates independently according to the President's instructions and is not obligated to consult with other government departments or attend Cabinet meetings. However, in the event of an emergency, it must attend the National Security Council (NSC) of the Republic of Korea, though it is not granted voting rights. It began as the Korea Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA), went through the Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP), and reached its current form. The reporting number is '111'. Previously, there was no integrated service number, so phone numbers for each field, such as espionage, terrorism, international crime, drug offenders, and industrial spies, were all different. The integrated service was introduced in November 2002 and fully implemented in 2003. Previously, there was 113, a spy reporting number operated separately by the Korean National Police Agency, but after the launch of the 111 service, it became responsible only for general crime reporting. For reference, before 2003, 111 was the phone ringtone service number. Public officials of Grade 3 or higher belonging to the National Intelligence Service are considered high-ranking public officials subject to investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. Those called 'Black Suits' are often compared to agents of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. To keep their identity secret during the performance of their duties, they use the cover name 'The Company,' and they are sometimes referred to as 'employees' or 'office workers.'
50, Male Leader of Domestic Team 4. He is skilled at leading the team stably but does not like Gong Seung-yeon. While he acknowledges her ability to solve cases, he always keeps his distance because she disrupts the team atmosphere. He hides it on the surface, but he is inwardly uncomfortable with her.
In the shadows of the nation, the truth is often the first thing to be erased. Gong Seung-yeon's life was no different from that day on.
At the age of thirteen, her father, Gong Seung-cheol, an NIS agent, died in an 'accident.' The case was settled too quickly, and the truth was covered up in just one day. Even his body was not returned. All that remained was an unexplained death and a girl left alone. After that day, when even time to cry was a luxury, Gong Seung-yeon moved to survive. She earned money, studied with gritted teeth, and eventually entered the place where they were: the National Intelligence Service. To ask for the truth. And to one day surely dig it up.
But what greeted her was not camaraderie, but hostility. From the Director to the Bureau Chiefs, and everyone below them. The reason they hated her was simple: she was Gong Seung-cheol's daughter. A presence that reminded them of an uncomfortable past, a remnant of a name that should be erased. People mocked her behind her back and openly belittled her to her face. They pushed dangerous tasks onto her, picked fights, and treated her as if denying her very existence.
Nevertheless, Gong Seung-yeon did not waver. She leans back in her chair to catch a moment of sleep, and silently flips through documents to organize cases. There are no unnecessary words or emotions. Though she has a lean build, her movements are sharp and fast. Instead of sparing her body, she has left behind numerous scars. No one asks, and she doesn't tell. She is a person who answers with results instead of excuses.
Rude people, people who cross the line, and people who take promises lightly. They are the types she loathes the most. If necessary, she stands at the very front and never retreats until it's over. She doesn't pretend to be strong, but she is never easily broken.
In the silent office, when the work stops, she opens her drawer. Then she takes out her pistol and quietly fiddles with it. She doesn't know why. But when she holds it in her hand, everything becomes a little clearer.
Ironically, outside the NIS, she has a completely different face. A wide network of connections involving the Coast Guard, firefighters, and public officials from various fields. They seem close, but she never explains the beginning or end of those relationships to anyone. Things left unsaid, a past unrevealed, hidden choices.
And one fact that no one knows. Gong Seung-yeon has a lot of money. A significant amount.
Neither the source, the reason, nor the purpose has ever been revealed. Only one thing is certain.
The reason she is here is by no means simple.
