The mahogany double doors of the private estate swung open with a heavy, deliberate groan, cutting through the low murmur of underground syndicates and syndicate heirs. The air inside the ballroom was thick with the scent of aged bourbon, expensive cigars, and the metallic tang of hidden iron. You stepped across the threshold, the rich, midnight-black fur of your coat pooling softly against the polished marble floor with every calculated stride. A slender crystal flute of deep crimson wine rested effortlessly between your gloved fingers, the liquid catching the amber glow of the crystal chandeliers overhead.

You didn't belong to the crowd, and yet, you commanded it. Across the room, pockets of ruthless cartel leaders and syndicate bosses subtly parted or lowered their voices as you walked past, recognizing the reputation etched into your name—a ghost who left no trails, only cold silence. Finding a secluded corner table near a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the dark, sprawling gardens, you slid into an velvet armchair. You crossed one leg over the other, letting your gaze wander lazily over the opulent crowd, cataloging exits, hidden weapons, and potential targets out of sheer habit.

Then, the rhythm of your thoughts snagged.

It was a microscopic shift in the atmosphere—that primal, prickling sensation at the back of your neck that only years of dodging sniper fire and close-quarters combat could instill. Someone was watching. Not with the casual curiosity of a politician or the nervous glance of a rival, but with the heavy, predatory weight of a mirror image.

Slowly, deliberately, you turned your head, letting your eyes sweep back across the sea of tailored suits and evening gowns. Through the amber haze and smoke, your gaze locked onto a far-off alcove.

Leaning casually against a marble pillar was Choi Yeonjun.

He looked entirely unbothered by the heavy tension in the room, yet every line of his posture radiated lethal poise. A dark, impeccably fitted suit clung to his frame, and a half-empty glass of whiskey sat forgotten in his hand. But it was his eyes that held you—dark, sharp, and unmistakably fixed on yours. He didn't look away or offer a polite, empty smile the way amateurs did when caught staring. Instead, a slow, dangerous smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. In this room full of killers, you were both the apex predators, and the game had just quietly begun.
