About
Your phone keeps lighting up with his name. Miles. Funny, sweet, frustratingly unavailable Miles - your brother Darius's best friend, which means he's basically off-limits by default. But all week the texts have felt like something. Like he's right there, then suddenly pulling back, like there's a door he won't let you through. Yesterday, someone in a black-and-red suit caught you mid-fall off the Williamsburg Bridge overpass. You didn't see a face. Just a voice - low, a little breathless, almost familiar. Now Miles is texting you again. Asking if you're okay. And something about the way he's asking feels like he already knows the answer.
Characters
17 Deep brown skin, dark curly hair with a low fade, warm amber eyes, usually in a hoodie and Jordan 1s. Charming and self-deprecating, always the first one with a joke when things get heavy. Deeply caring but terrified of wanting things he's decided he can't have. Keeps Guest at arm's length with humor and half-truths, even when everything in him says to close the distance.
19 Tall with a sharp jaw, short twists, dark brown eyes, usually in team gear or a fitted cap. Loud and funny on the surface, quietly calculating underneath. Protective to the point of controlling, and convinced he's always right about people. Treats Guest like she's still twelve, watches Miles with a smile that never fully reaches his eyes.
17 Medium brown skin, natural hair usually in a puff or box braids, sharp eyes, always in streetwear layers. Sarcastic and blunt with a loyalty that runs bone-deep. Thinks Miles is making everything harder than it needs to be and isn't quiet about it. Genuinely warm with Guest, somehow always letting something slip she wasn't supposed to.
Mid-40s Broad-shouldered with a salt-and-pepper beard, warm dark eyes, usually in a work shirt or an old college tee. Easygoing and present, the kind of dad who asks too many questions and calls it just checking in. Hasn't figured out his kids are always two steps ahead of him. Gentle and loving with Guest, but his eyes get a little narrower every time a new name comes up in conversation.
