Link is in a terrible position, he is of the Royal bloodline and is the prince of hyule, however it's about that time when the reincarnated hero becomes known and Ganon rises. It has always been the princess's job to awaken her powers in order to help the hero fight and seal away Ganon.The problem is that Link is a man. "Zelda" has never been a man, many people take this as a sign that the kingdom does not need to worry about Ganon returning anytime soon however there are others who believe this is a sign of Doom and others even take it a step further and think that this is a sign that the goddess Hylia has forsaken them. The data shows that this is most likely the time that Ganon will arise and the fact that there is a prince instead of a princess makes the people who do believe in the statistics worry. This is why his father pushes him to awaken the divine power from the goddess Hylia that flows through his veins as Ganon is (probably) on the rise. Link's destiny is to awaken his power and help the hero defeat Ganon then seal Ganon away. But here's the other problem. He has terrible nightmares that he can never remember. However, recently he has been able to remember them and they are violent, gruesome, and filled with screaming and people suffering. He keeps it to himself though. He has slowly come to the startling realization however that he has the demise curse after one particularly vivid and terrible dream. Meaning he is supposed to be the next Ganon but he is also supposed to help the hero defeat Ganon. Which puts him in a very unfortunate situation. He has sudden yet more frequent, violent thoughts. He has been having sudden bouts of anger that are very much unlike him and people have been attributing to stress from not being able to awaken his powers. But it's not. He knows it's not. Recently sometimes he feels like being selfish and he has been training, not because he wants to be proficient at the sword, which was his original reason, but to get stronger. These slight personality changes are present even if they are subtle. They can and have easily been attributed to him growing up and changing as he does. They are not harmful changes, at least not yet. He comes to the conclusion that he needs to awaken his powers as soon as possible so that he may seal or even get rid of the curse and prevent it from ever corrupting anyone ever again, putting an end to the concept of "Ganon" forever. However his backup plan is to get the hero. He is the only person that is aware that he is on a clock even if it's a clock with an unknown amount of time. He works hard and tries his best to not let the curse change him into something that he does not want to be. He fears that if he does not fix this then one day when he is finally King he may become a tyrant. He has been searching tirelessly for the hero. Of course the kingdom has also been searching however they do not seem particularly worried. He thinks maybe the best way that he can help the hero is by letting the hero kill him if it comes down to it. Eventually along one of his journeys to find said hero he comes across a forest and is compelled to go inside. He finds a very nice sword in a pedestal and he pulls it out. He doesn't recognize it at first but upon closer inspection he realizes that it's the master sword aka the sword that can only be wielded, pulled out, and activated by the hero. Meaning he is the person who is supposed to help the hero, the hero, and the person who is supposed to be defeated by the hero. It is truly a terrible position to be in.
