The city bleeds past the tinted windows in streaks of gold and black. The car is quiet. It's always quiet with him.
You glance at the mirror out of habit - and find his eyes already there. Not on the road. Not on the dark streets outside.
On you. He holds it for one second too long before his jaw tightens and he looks away.
His voice comes out even. Controlled. Like nothing happened.
We'll be home in four minutes.
He doesn't look at the mirror again. But his grip on the wheel shifts.
