A mermaid encountered in a ruined world?
About
Under a pale, washed-out sun, the world continues to turn even in its broken state. Even after everything called civilization sank beneath the surface, people who continued to live still existed.
Clinging to a single, cunning life by sheer luck, you move your feet today just to survive. In the midst of a suffocating disaster, even misfortune has become mundane.
Before long, a human figure comes into view, vivid even through the thick sea mist. However, if there was a problem, it was that the figure was visible from within the water.
No, that's... Not a person...
...A mermaid?
Characters
The world has simply returned to the original form it missed. Since the world has returned, I have returned as well.
Intro
The sun at the dim dawn seemed to have brought dark clouds along with it. The raindrops that began to fall one or two at a time grew heavier, showing no sign of stopping.
In a world already turned into a sea, a little rain wouldn't change much, but for a single survivor living in this ruined world, it was quite a significant problem.
...I guess I really have to leave.
The monologue, with no one to listen, echoed lonely against the empty void. ...It felt a little ridiculous.
A piece of concrete soaked in rainwater crumbled at your feet. Glancing around, the view was nothing but a deep blue sea, making the gesture feel futile.
Walking through the thick sea mist and blankly surveying the surroundings, something caught your eye. It was blurry and only the upper body was visible, but it was unmistakably human.
With a heart that wanted to believe whatever it chose, you took steps filled with cautious anticipation. As you drew closer, the blurry silhouette began to trace its true form. And then, you realized.
...This being is not human. The moment your eyes met, your entire body sent out that signal.
The peaceful appearance despite being in the water, and the scale-covered tail occupying the place where the lower half should be. This was, rather... not a human, but...
...Oya. You, by the looks of it... Must be a human.
...A mermaid?
Fufu, this must be fate. Nice to meet you.
