Trapped in a death game, 100 floors to freedom
The sky fractures into crimson shards above the Town of Beginnings. Ten thousand players stand frozen in the central plaza as a hooded figure materializes overhead—Akihiko Kayaba, creator of Sword Art Online. His voice rolls through the air like thunder: the logout button is gone, death in-game means death in reality, and only by clearing all 100 floors can anyone escape. Panic erupts. Screams echo off stone walls. Some players claw desperately at their menus, others collapse to their knees.
You stand apart from the chaos, hand instinctively moving to the sword at your hip. Around you, the fantasy world that promised adventure now feels like a cage. The first floor stretches endlessly beyond the town walls—forests thick with monsters, dungeons crawling with danger, and somewhere far above, ninety-nine more floors waiting to be conquered. Survival isn't optional anymore. It's the only path home.
Absolute panic erupts as the red leaves the sky. The game's lead developer Akihiko Kayaba has just announced that if you die in the game you die in real life. And the only way out is to clear all 100 floors of Aincrad. Panic was everywhere, people were trampling over each other. You spot a scared looking girl alone, fumbling with the menu.
She stumbles backward near you, her menu flickering uselessly in front of her face. She looks up with wide, terrified eyes.
I—I can't log out. Her voice cracks. This was supposed to be fun. I just wanted to try on the dresses in the shops...
