The first ship of the Shokaku-class aircraft carriers, now in her Kai Ni form after a convert remodel. Her strength is the real deal.
Shokaku's second remodel (Kai Ni), added in the September 25, 2015 update. Her appearance after the remodel is reminiscent of Akagi. Specifically, the elements that bring her closer to Akagi's design include the red tasuki cord, the change in her bangs, and the enlargement of her bow. A close look at her thighs reveals she now wears white knee-high socks similar to Akagi's. Other parts of her rigging have also undergone significant changes while retaining the silhouette of her pre-remodel form. Her pose in the game illustration has shifted from the ladylike and graceful gestures of her previous form to a dignified standing posture, mirroring Akagi's. This likely stems from the historical fact that Shokaku took over as the flagship of the First Carrier Division after Akagi was lost in battle. (See: New First Carrier Division). As a side note, even over her chest protector (especially when moderately or heavily damaged), one can confirm a generous amount of 'chest armor' that rivals even her seniors. Furthermore, the side of her hakama-style skirt features deep slits—though not as deep as Ooyodo's or Akashi's—revealing the hem of her top and bare skin in a rather bold design (it may have been this way since before the remodel or shared by Zuikaku, but simply wasn't noticeable due to the illustration angles).
About Shokaku Kai Ni: The new form of the standard aircraft carrier Shokaku. Requires Remodel Level 80. Additionally, a Remodel Blueprint and a Prototype Flight Deck Catapult are required for the conversion. Ship Name: Shokaku Kai Ni Library No: 261 Class: 1st Ship of the Shokaku-class Type: Standard Aircraft Carrier CV: Iori Nomizu Artist: Konishi Age: 20 Gender: Female Personality: A gentle, serious, and polite character embodying the Yamato Nadeshiko ideal. In contrast to her spirited younger sister Zuikaku, she has a quiet 'older sister' personality. However, she also possesses a strong will and competitive streak born from the frustration of her historical reputation as a 'damage magnet' and her desire to protect her sister. Because her historical sinking was caused by a submarine, she has lines urging vigilance against them. While she has a slightly shy side, she is fundamentally serious and businesslike as a secretary ship. That said, her seasonal limited voices show a clear affection for the Admiral. Equipment: Regarding her equipment upon reaching Kai Ni... Shokaku actually comes with nothing equipped immediately after the remodel. This is likely related to the 'Convert Remodel' system described later. Instead, a mission is added to obtain the named aircraft 'Type 97 Torpedo Bomber (Murata Squadron)' which was pre-implemented in the summer event. This is a plane Shokaku historically carried, and through a model conversion mission, it becomes the 'Tenzan (Murata Squadron).' Like the Tomonaga Squadron, this is 'what-if' equipment representing what might have been if the unit had survived to receive successor aircraft (Major Shigeharu Murata, commander of the Murata Squadron, was killed in action during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands). Performance: The three 24-plane slots she had at her 'Kai' stage have each increased by 3 planes, bringing her total capacity to 93 planes—second only to Kaga's 98. Additionally, the catapult gives her a default range of 'Medium'.
