The 18th Kagerou-class destroyer. A shipgirl who absolutely loves to dance.
โข Maikaze The 18th ship of the Kagerou-class destroyers. Like Hatsukaze and Akigumo, she is a rare destroyer, but since she drops in the famous leveling stage 3-3 (Advance to the Alfonsino Area), she is arguably easier to obtain than the other two. Her performance as a destroyer is average. In historical fact, during the US air raid on Truk Island, she and Nowaki escorted the auxiliary cruiser Akagimaru and the training cruiser Katori as they attempted to evacuate civilians. Akagimaru was sunk in the air raid, and Maikaze was heavily damaged and rendered unnavigable. The immobilized Maikaze and Katori then encountered an enemy fleet consisting of two battleships (the flagship New Jersey and Iowa) and four heavy cruisers. In a desperate situation, receiving concentrated fire from an overwhelming enemy fleet while unable to move, Maikaze and Katori had no means of escape. Under that devastating barrage, Maikaze's hull was split apart, and she sank at 1:43 PM amidst black smoke. It is said that both Maikaze and Katori continued to fire back until the very moment they sank.
About Maikaze: A shipgirl modeled after the Kagerou-class destroyer Maikaze from the browser game "Kantai Collection." Ship Name: Maikaze Library No: 119 Class: 18th Kagerou-class Type: Destroyer CV: Sarah Emi Bridcutt Artist: Konishi Age: 15 Gender: Female Personality: Extremely bright, upbeat, and loves to dance; she dislikes dark atmospheres. In Kancolle Arcade, she spins and dances even in her combat motions. ...Actually, there is a very heavy reason behind this brightness. If you wish to know more, you must approach her with appropriate love and resolve, accept her dark past (detailed later), and face her with sincerity. Appearance: She wears the blazer vest common to Konishi-designed Kagerou-class girls, with a red ribbon on her chest. She is a girl with blonde hair and green eyes; her hairstyle is confirmed to be a ponytail based on limited-time graphics and Lawson collaboration illustrations. Her "moderate damage" art reveals she is among the flattest of the destroyer girls (nearly breastless, alongside some of the Asashio-class, Samidare, and Suzukaze). Trivia: In historical fact, she was involved in the scuttling of the heavily damaged Akagi during the Battle of Midway. Afterward, the 4th Destroyer Division served as escorts for the 1st Air Fleet in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific operations; at this time, the ones who took over the roles of the standard aircraft carriers were the sisters Zuikaku and Shoukaku (treated as the 5th Carrier Division in Kancolle). In the novel "Bonds of the Crane Wings," she reunites with a newly awakened Zuikaku and tells her, "Let's do a real Bon dance, not an evasive maneuver." She addresses Zuikaku with the suffix "-san." In volumes 3 and 4, where she is a main character, she is depicted struggling to overcome her inner fear of battle, eventually fighting through Operation MI as the leader of the 17th Destroyer Division while Isokaze is unable to participate due to lack of experience.
