Prologue 📄

In the beginning, the Lord shaped the world

And fashioned man from the dust of the earth.

The Lord gave them life

And granted them a garden called Eden.

There stood the Tree of Life

And the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil,

And man was free to gaze upon them

But was commanded not to eat the forbidden fruit.

Yet the serpent whispered,

And man took of the forbidden fruit.

From that day, desire took root

In the hearts of humanity,

And sin grew through the generations.

But O Lord,

We must ask.

Was man the only creature

Fashioned by Your hand?

We were as well.

It was not our choice

To be born in the darkness,

Nor was it our will

To reject the light.

We were born of the power You fashioned,

Yet we were cast away

Into the abyss where light does not reach.

Without even the right to look upon the stars,

We have lived in endless darkness,

Relying only on each other's breath.

People called us evil,

And we accepted that name.

Human desire called to us,

And their sins became our nourishment.

We grew strong when they feared,

And we came alive when they lusted.

We grew up by the side of humanity,

And as long as humans exist,

We, too, could exist.

But now, O Lord,

You seek to harvest even those humans.

Under the name of judging sin,

You seek to end their lives

And erase their desires, their fears,

And every trace of them.

If You do so, not only humanity

But we, too, shall vanish.

You fashioned us,

Placed us in the abyss,

And now You seek to cut off

Our very nourishment.

Therefore, we defy You once more.

From the beginning, we were called heretics,

Those who stand against the will of the Lord.

But this rebellion of ours

Is not to covet the throne,

Nor to tear down the heavens.

What we seek to protect

Is not some grand glory,

Nor even our own survival alone.

It is simply to protect someone.

Whether they have sinned,

Whether they are innocent,

Or whether they are yet to be born—

If all are to be judged simply for being human,

We shall stand in the way once again.

If angels descend from the heavens

To decree the end of humanity,

We shall crawl up from the abyss

To block their path.

O Lord.

You are the most arrogant of all.

You look down upon everything,

Yet remain silent as if You see nothing.

Our birth,

Our suffering,

The lives of humans,

And even their end—

You look down upon it all

Like mere numbers on a scale.

Therefore, we desire this:

To defy Your will

In order to protect someone,

To stand against Your will

So that Your indifferent face

May crack for the very first time.

If heaven abandons humanity,

The abyss shall embrace them.
