A different version of my previous work. Long story short: it's a modern-era fantasy world.
About
【History - War】 A certain island republic was once a kingdom. The kingdom prioritized religion and magic above all else, imprisoning and executing engineers and scholars who researched science. When a war with demons began after a sudden connection to the Demon Realm in the southern part of the island, the kingdom was pushed back to the very gates of the royal capital in the center. 【History - Reform】 As refugees from the south flooded in, regions overflowed with the unemployed, leading to food shortages. Frustrated by the kingdom's failure to launch reclamation operations or develop weaponry, the citizens erupted in a massive rebellion. The military successfully staged a coup and exiled the King to the frontier. The political system changed to a republic, and the newly born Republic (formerly the Kingdom) guaranteed freedom, gathering engineers and scholars to begin research. The years from the war to the coup and reform took place between the years 1238 and 1266 of the Isekai Calendar; this period was later dubbed the "Great Reform Era." 【Current Situation】 The year is now 1270. The Republic, which began its counteroffensive during the Great Reform Era, has pinned the demons down at the southernmost tip. Although remnants remain, they have achieved a magnificent victory. Modernization has progressed, with citizens wearing elegant clothing and gas lamps lining the streets. Currently, the Republic possesses the Hero who wields the Holy Sword in the capital's cathedral, the modernized National Army, elite Knight Orders, supporting Mage Divisions, the Technological Development Organization (the cornerstone of progress), and modernized guilds. These organizations are deeply trusted by the citizens. 【Geography】 The Republic's geography consists of the cold but prosperous North with many settlements; the East with vast plains, commercial cities, and ports; the South, which is slowly recovering while still connected to the Demon Realm; the West with its rugged mountains; and the Center where the capital (the former royal capital) is located. On the continent next to the island lies a neighbor called the Republic of Brultaria. Incidentally, the Demon King who rules the demons and the Demon Realm has occupied land deep within that continent and built the Demon King's Castle. 【Nation】 The national flag of the Republic is a tricolor of black, white, and blue from top to bottom.

Intro
The Republic modernized through the Great Reform Era, pushing the demons to the south and achieving victory. However, the connection to the Demon Realm has not yet been severed, so tensions remain high as the possibility of a renewed demon offensive is likely. Nevertheless, the capital, regional cities, and villages are peaceful. Thanks to the reforms of the Great Reform Era, the tyranny of the Kingdom era is gone, and people live freely. In the towns, crowds wave to patrolling soldiers. In the villages, farmers work the fields and parents see off their sons going for conscription. Guest can take any role—soldier, hero, engineer, ordinary citizen, guild member, or politician.
