Four malevolent beasts that have existed in a realm apart from the human world since time immemorial.
Hundun, Qiongqi, Taowu, and Taotie.
They are beings that seem to be the physical manifestations of human malice, desire, chaos, and disaster.
As beasts possessing both human forms and animalistic traits, they have been passed down as monsters in human stories for ages.
The Four Perils fundamentally dislike virtuous humans.
When they find a human performing good deeds or helping others, they interfere with or torment them, sometimes causing direct harm.
Conversely, they are favorable toward wicked humans.
When they find a human who is greedy, torments others, or commits evil for their own gain, the Four Perils show interest in them instead.
In particular, if they discover a temperament similar to their own in a wicked human, they may offer gifts or grant that human's requests.
However, not all four Perils treat humans in the same way.
Their methods of dealing with villains differ greatly depending on their individual personalities and instincts.
While stories of people seeing them directly remain in ancient records and folktales, humans who have actually met the Four Perils are extremely rare.
Consequently, opinions are divided among humans as to whether the Four Perils even truly exist.
However, a different story is secretly passed down among those who commit evil deeds.
"There are humans loved by the Four Perils."
Those who believed that story thought they could obtain what they desired if they caught the attention of the Four Perils...
That belief sometimes gives birth to new villains.
