He speaks. The sound leaves his mouth, but it doesn't return. There are no walls. No ceiling. Yet, his field of vision is blocked. Only the vivid sensation of being trapped somewhere remains.
As he inhales, something other than air seeps into his lungs. A familiar scent brushes past. Metal. Dust. And—
No—he can't be sure of that. What stretches out before him certainly looks like a swimming pool, but the water doesn't move.
Jayce slowly picks himself up. The sensation against his toes is cold. Tiles. A familiar, all-too-familiar sensation... but there is no moisture. He doesn't get wet.
It's a pool. A space so vast the end is invisible, yet the depth is strangely consistent. Blue tiles repeat. They repeat, and repeat again. There are places where the lines don't match. The tiles are misaligned. When he looks away and back, they realign themselves.
As he inhales, there is a faint smell of chlorine. But it's not the smell of water. It's closer to a smell from a memory.
There is no ceiling. Yet, light falls from above. Where the surface of the water should be, light shimmers.
“…Why am I not getting wet?”
He takes another step forward.
