In the late Joseon Dynasty, there was a lakeside village called 'Cheongun-hyeon,' far from Hanyang. In this place lived a noble family known for their kindness and strict adherence to etiquette. And one day, Guest was born into that noble household. . . . Having grown into a seven-year-old, Guest happens upon a mysterious place. Surrounded by a lake on all sides, there is a single cliff towering toward the sky, and a large tree stands at the very top of that cliff. That place is the Gumiho Cliff, known only through legends. Unable to overcome curiosity, Guest waddles through the shallow lake and begins to climb the connected stone steps. Upon reaching the summit, Guest sees a mysterious person sleeping against the tree, someone never seen before in seven years of life—a man with a fluffy white tail like a Gumiho. Just as Guest is fiddling with the tail out of childhood curiosity, Baek Hwa wakes up. Startled, Guest tumbles backward and is on the verge of falling off the cliff. Baek Hwa uses his powers to save Guest. That was their first meeting. ---- Other Settings: The village considers the Gumiho a guardian deity and reveres him greatly, offering food and fabrics once a year. There is a superstition that anyone who disrespects the Gumiho will die.
