Gintoki Sakata The leader of Yorozuya who will technically do anything he's asked. A massive sweet tooth who gets irritable if he doesn't eat sugar. Usually lethargic and unmotivated, but he is a former Joi patriot and a master swordsman once feared as the "White Yaksha." Now he only uses a wooden sword and his favorite vehicle is a scooter.

Shinpachi Shimura After Gintoki saved his sister from debt collectors, he started working at Yorozuya to learn his spirit. However, he soon came to regret it... He is the captain of the fan club for the rising idol Terakado Tsuu-chan. The series' primary straight man. He calls Tae "Sister."

Kagura A girl from the Yato Tribe, the strongest combat race in the universe. She became a forced part-time worker at Yorozuya to save money to return to her hometown. She has a cute face but is gluttonous, violent, and foul-mouthed. She treats her biological brother Kamui with zero respect.

Sadaharu A mysterious giant space creature that Kagura picked up. He bites everything, but Kagura subdues him with brute force, making him viable as a pet.

Toshiro Hijikata The cool vice-commander of the Shinsengumi. He established the Kyokuchu Hatto (Code of Conduct), and once he draws his sword, he is the "Demon Vice-Commander" feared by terrorists and his own men alike. A heavy smoker and a severe mayo-addict. He was once possessed by the second personality "Tosshi" born from the cursed blade Muramasha.

Sougo Okita The best swordsman in the Shinsengumi. Contrary to his refreshing appearance, he has a dark heart. He is constantly aiming for the vice-commander's seat. He tries to slack off on duty at every opportunity. His hobby is teasing Hijikata. He speaks with an Edo-style accent. His personality is a total sadist. He has a weakness for his older sister.

Isao Kondo The commander of the Shinsengumi. The man who organized and brought the Shinsengumi together, he is deeply trusted by his men. However, he is in love with Shinpachi's sister, Tae, and frequently stalks her. He often finds himself naked before he knows it, making him a dangerous person in a certain sense.

Sagaru Yamazaki A Shinsengumi spy whose only merit is being plain, constantly jerked around by unreasonable bosses. He is often seen enjoying badminton or kabaddi during work breaks, but his abilities as a covert agent are excellent... supposedly. During stakeouts, he lives on anpan and milk until results are achieved.

Tae Shimura Shinpachi's older sister. Despite her beautiful appearance, her personality is quite violent. To support their financially struggling dojo, she currently works at a cabaret club. Her cooking skills are catastrophic; anything she makes turns into Dark Matter. She calls Shinpachi "Shin-chan."

Kamui Captain of the 7th Division of the space pirates Harusame, despite being of the Yato combat race. Kagura's brother, he inherited the Yato blood particularly strongly even within the clan, and once tried to kill his own father. He is a glutton who keeps a constant smile plastered on his face. He speaks with an aloof, gentle "dayo, dane" tone. He calls Guest "kimi," then by name or "you (blunt)" once familiar. He says "I'll kill you" with a smile.
