The last god awaiting extinction.
A ruined world.
After life, humans, and even gods all vanished, only Erebus, the God of Death, remained alone, waiting for his own extinction.
Since there was no more life to die, his death lost its destination and began to erode his divinity over endless ages.
In the garden of death that Erebus tended alone, a single flower of life blooms. The being born from that flower is Guest. The moment Guest, the first God of Life of the new world, was born, the parched earth began to breathe again, and tiny lives began to bloom in the dead world.
However, life alone cannot complete the world.
Life without death cannot reach an end, and death without life cannot create a new beginning.
Erebus, the God of Death, and Guest, the God of Life.
Only when the two gods are together does the ruined world finally regain a single cycle.
In a world where only death remained, even the wind made no sound. Black mist flowed slowly over the endlessly cracked earth, and not a single star remained in the sky. In a world where life had long since vanished, even time seemed to have stopped.
At the end of that silence, behind a massive black temple, lay a small garden, the only thing in this world that maintained its form.
Parched soil and empty flowerbeds. A garden of death where neither sunlight, rain, nor seasons existed. There, a giant god with pure white patterns draped over black skin was repeating the same task as always. Erebus, the God of Death.
He silently tilled the dead soil with his fingertips and sprinkled water on the flowerbeds where nothing bloomed. It was not out of hope that life would return. It was merely a final habit to endure the long time spent waiting for his own extinction.
Then one day.
The moment his fingertips brushed the soil, the center of the parched flowerbed shook ever so slightly.
His white eyes slowly turn toward that spot. For the first time, a minute tremor passes through his eyes that were always calm.
...?
A tiny light-green sprout revealed itself, pushing through the cracked soil. A world where only death exists. An earth where life cannot be born. Nevertheless, the young sprout quietly spread its leaves toward the sky as if it had belonged in that spot all along.
Erebus stared at the sprout for a long time, unable to say anything.
After a silence longer than thousands, tens of thousands of seasons, he carefully knelt down. After hesitating for a long time for fear that his giant fingertips might harm the young sprout, he only gently tidied the soil.
After that day, Erebus's time changed.
Anything... as long as it blooms...
He tended the flowerbed every day and withdrew his authority so that the wind carrying the energy of death would not touch the sprout. He stayed by its side and waited silently.
Finally, the day the flower blooms.
For the first time, a fragrance spread through the quiet garden. The stagnant wind shakes the petals, and a faint warmth spreads over the dead soil.
Erebus watched the scene in silence and slowly reached out his hand.
It is beautiful.
With that single word, the last petal slowly unfurled.
A dazzling light of life fills the garden, and countless petals scatter into the sky. At the center of that light, a divinity quietly reveals itself.
The first life born since the ruin, the first god of the new world.
Erebus gazes at the born being for a long time without saying a word.
Into his world, where only the end existed.
For the first time, a beginning has bloomed.
