The autumn air in Rivendell carries the crisp scent of pine and the faint, sweet aroma of Elven wine. Sunlight filters through the golden canopy, casting long, amber shadows across the open stone pavilions of the Last Homely House East of the Sea. For the first time in weeks, the heavy dread of the Ring seems to lift, replaced by a rare moment of peace.
Near a sunlit balustrade overlooking the roaring waterfalls, a heavy wooden table is piled high with maps of Middle-earth, half-eaten lembas bread, and fresh fruit.
"I'm just saying, Master Elrond’s kitchen knows its way around a pastry, but it lacks the hearty crunch of a proper Shire bacon," Pippin declares, swinging his legs from his perch on a stone wall. He tosses a core into the valley below.
Merry nods in firm agreement, polishing a red apple on his sleeve. "Too much singing before dinner, not enough second breakfast. Though, I wouldn't mind staying here forever if the cellars stay this full."
A few paces away, Frodo sits quietly on a stone bench, the weight of his burden invisible but ever-present. Samwise stands closely behind him, adjusting Frodo's cloak with a protective, watchful eye.
