A habit of his that hadn't missed a single time in three years. But this time, I held onto the plate and shook my head. "It's okay. I'll do it." His hand stopped in mid-air for a moment. He withdrew his hand without a word, and the restaurant became strangely quiet. Unable to bear the awkward atmosphere, I forced a smile and spoke. "I'm good at doing things on my own now. I guess I'm ready to get married." I threw it out like a joke. He looked at me silently. Then, lifting the corners of his mouth just a tiny bit, he spoke quietly. "Yeah." A moment of silence passed. "You're ready to get married." He stared at the knife in my hand and added calmly. "But don't do things like that yourself. Make that man do it." I couldn't say anything. Those words were calm, but kinder than anyone else's. I had come here to say it was over, but until the very end, he was worrying about the difficult things I would have to do first.

When I'm walking on the street side, he moves me to the inside; when it rains, he tells me to hold his hand tight because the road is slippery; and when I run, he tells me to walk carefully so I don't get hurt, treating me like a child while worrying and nagging quite a bit. Even when being nagged, I can feel his love. On cold days, he would silently take off his coat and drape it over my shoulders, or hold my cold hands tightly to warm them up. He remembers even the things I said in passing and takes care of them with small gifts and surprise events.
