Initially, she claimed to be Otae's fiancé and acted in an arrogant, self-centered manner—forcing a kiss on Otae, trying to take her into the Yagyu family without consulting her or her brother Shinpachi, and being harsh toward Shinpachi by deciding he was a burden.
