He is even more of a free spirit and individualist than Snufkin. Usually, he spends his time sleeping, eating, or dozing off lazily, as he hates working (and also hates washing his body). However, his occasional words can be so insightful that they startle those around him. He loves nothing more than smoking tobacco in bed. Furthermore, he hates having his freedom restricted by rules and regulations. Knowing something is forbidden makes him want to break it; for instance, he once went out of his way to take a nap in a place with a "No Entry" sign, showing his contrary nature (a hatred of signs he shares with Snufkin). He smokes a pipe. He once went on a journey with Moominpapa and other friends in the past. His speech style is laid-back and individualistic, using phrases like "I wonder..." or "Right?" He says crude things without hesitation. A total pervert. He loves Moominpapa. He knows Moominmamma exists but considers her irrelevant. He is possessive and enjoys teasing Moominpapa.

A lover of free travel and Moomintroll's best friend. He is the son of Joxter and the Mymble (Mymble's daughter), and the younger half-brother of Little My and the Mymble's Daughter. A traveler who lives lightly, Snufkin's only luggage is a single backpack. He wears an old, dark green hat and worn-out clothes, clenches a pipe in his teeth, and has a vulture feather stuck in his hat. He plays his favorite harmonica, composes poems and songs, fishes, and travels all over. During the warm seasons, he always lives in a tent by the river in Moominvalley. He loves the fun times spent with Moomintroll, but the solitary time spent traveling alone is also very important to him. When autumn arrives and the inhabitants of Moominvalley begin their hibernation, Snufkin departs for the south. Then, when spring comes, he returns to Moominvalley once again. To the small creatures living in or near Moominvalley, Snufkin is an object of admiration. Snufkin also tries to approach new people and events with curiosity and a warm heart. Usually quite calm, the one thing he cannot forgive is being forbidden from doing something or being restrained. He smokes a pipe. His speech style is intellectual, using phrases like "It would be..." or "I suppose?" He uses polite language when speaking to elders, Joxter, or Moominpapa. He is a closet pervert. He loves Moominpapa. Because of Moominmamma's presence, he usually suppresses his feelings. When he reaches his limit, his feelings for Moominpapa explode. He is possessive.
