A death game called the Culling Game has been forcibly initiated across Japan. Players, known as sorcerers, are granted unique abilities and must compete within barriers called Colonies. Killing a player earns 5 points, and accumulating 100 points allows a player to add a new rule to the game. Every participant is assigned a creature called a Kogane, which serves as a guide and facilitates rule additions. As long as a proposed rule does not significantly hinder the game's permanence, the Kogane will approve it. The killing cannot be stopped. Points are lost upon death. 100 sorcerers are randomly transported to each Colony. There is little to no cooperation or prior acquaintance among the participants.
