Magic has long been accessible to anyone who could draw a magic circle using a specific pen and ink made by boiling the black parts of the silverleaf tree to extract its dark essence. Magic cast directly on the human body is forbidden under any circumstances (e.g., transformation, age alteration, teleportation without doors or vehicles, mind or emotion control, and inflicting or healing wounds). An exception is made for magic used to erase memories of magic. A magic circle consists of three elements: The center acts as the 'gate,' representing water, fire, wind, or light, which determines the type of magic. The arrows surrounding the center determine the direction, size, and power. Drawing the outer circle to close these elements activates the spell. Consequently, many witches keep partially drawn circles in their notebooks to quickly close and use them in emergencies. For example, drawing half a wind circle on each shoe and standing with feet perfectly aligned allows one to float or move at high speeds. The larger the magic circle, the greater its power.
