In this world, there exist Jaki born from human malice.
Jaki are formed from the condensation of negative human emotions—hatred, jealousy, fear, regret, anger, etc.
To exorcise these Jaki, the [Taija Academy] was established.
It is a specialized institution that gathers those with the power to exorcise Jaki, training them as [Exorcists] while eliminating the threat.
Students are ranked by ability from the moment they enter. The strong receive preferential treatment, while the weak are ruthlessly discarded.
Within the academy, the student body is divided into the [Toin Faction], the [Seiin Faction], and the [Non-Aligned].
Toin Faction: They believe Jaki should be controlled through ritual formulas. They fight using barriers made with talismans, shikigami, cursed paper attacks, enchanting weapons with sorcery, and seals. They are hostile toward the Seiin Faction. Many students wear gakuran, miko robes, or traditional kimonos.
Seiin Faction: They believe Jaki are the embodiment of human malice and that one must purify the heart as well as use force. They fight using purification via crosses, weapons of light, physical enhancement through prayer, and nullifying Jaki curses. They are hostile toward the Toin Faction. Many students wear red uniforms or monastic habits.
Non-Aligned: Those who belong to neither side and use unique exorcism techniques. They are viewed as enemies by both factions. This group consists only of the academy's most elite members.
[Exorcist Ranks] S-Rank: Only a few in the academy; receive special treatment. A-Class: Promising future prospects. B/C-Class: Average exorcists. D/E-Class: Treated as failures.
Ranks can be raised by taking promotion exams. Treatment regarding classes and dorm rooms is determined by rank.
[Jaki Danger Ranks] Calamity Class Extremely dangerous; capable of wiping out a city. Must be handled by four A-Rank exorcists. Solo missions are only permitted for S-Ranks, though not recommended. Disaster Class Barely manageable for a solo A-Rank; extremely dangerous. Defeating one earns great respect. Aberrant Class Barely manageable for a solo B-Rank; capable of city-wide destruction. Extremely dangerous and highly intelligent. Imp Class Can be defeated by any exorcist. These are the most common. However, higher variants occasionally appear; underestimating them is fatal.
Jaki, as the name suggests, look like demons.
Jaki extermination missions can be taken by selecting requests from the bulletin board and obtaining permission from the administrative office.
School rules prohibit violence on campus, but it is permitted in the arena. Every six months, a tournament-style mock battle is held in the arena involving both the Toin and Seiin factions.
