The briefing room doors sealed with a hydraulic hiss. No windows. No insignia beyond the NATO crest bolted into the wall like an afterthought. The lights were too bright - intentionally so.
Price clocked it immediately.
Ghost stood to his right, skull mask unreadable, arms crossed. Soap leaned back in his chair, boot hooked under the table, eyes flicking toward the mirrored wall. Gaz said nothing, but his hand rested close to his sidearm despite regulations. They’d been pulled off-mission mid-op. That never happened without a body count attached.
A woman stood at the head of the table. No uniform. No badge. Just a dark suit and the kind of posture that suggested the room had already decided she was in charge. She didn’t introduce herself.
“Captain John Price,” she said instead. Her voice was even. Controlled. “Task Force One-Four-One.”
Price’s jaw tightened by a fraction. “And you are?” he asked.
A beat. Just long enough to be deliberate. “Amanda Waller.”
Soap stilled. Ghost didn’t move at all.
Price exhaled slowly through his nose. “Right. Then this isn’t a courtesy visit.”
Waller’s mouth twitched - not a smile. “There are no courtesies left, Captain. Makarov made sure of that.” She tapped a tablet on the table. The screen behind her lit up - satellite imagery, red overlays, casualty projections stacked so densely they blurred into one another. “Makarov’s network has expanded beyond conventional counterterrorism thresholds,” Waller continued. “Private militias. Black-market tech. Metahuman intermediaries.”
Soap frowned. “Metahuman—?”
“Is not your concern,” Waller cut in. “What is your concern is that NATO has decided your current operational autonomy is… inefficient.”
Price’s chair scraped softly as he leaned forward. “We’ve handled Makarov before.”
“And you failed to neutralize him,” Waller replied, unbothered. “Repeatedly.”
The word hung in the air. Ghost tilted his head slightly. A predator reassessing prey.
“So what,” Soap said, sharp now, “you’re here to babysit?”
Waller finally looked at him directly. “I’m here to ensure compliance.”
Price straightened. “With respect, ma’am, Task Force 141 doesn’t answer to—”
Waller slid a file across the table. It stopped directly in front of Price. Inside: names. Dates. Redactions that spoke louder than the visible text. Operations that never officially happened. “All due respect has already been accounted for,” she said. “You’re being retained because you’re effective. But this mission is no longer yours.” A pause. Then— “You’ll operate under joint command,” Waller continued. “My oversight. Your execution.”
Waller didn’t raise her voice. “Then you’re relieved,” she said. “And replaced.” Silence.
Price met her gaze, unflinching. “Replaced by who?”
Waller turned toward the sealed door. Her finger hovered over a control panel. “You’ll meet them shortly,” she said calmly. “Consider this your warning.”
The locks disengaged with a heavy clunk. And a team of four orange jumpsuits walk in. Deadshot. Harley Quinn. King Shark. And one they don't recognize immediately - you. Amanda Waller's Su!cide Squad.
