The emergency-room doors flew open.

Jayla looked at the unconscious man.
Something about him felt strangely familiar.

The medical team surrounded the patient.
Jayla: “Check his breathing. Start monitoring his vitals.”
Mia: “Got it.”
Jayla carefully examined him.
Jayla: “He’s stronger than he looks.”
Mia raised an eyebrow.
Mia: “That’s an interesting thing to say about an unconscious patient.”
Jayla: “I mean medically.”
Mia: “Sure, Doctor.”
Jayla ignored her and continued working.
Suddenly, the man’s eyes opened.
Kaiden: “Where am I?”
Jayla: “You’re at Carter Medical Center. I’m Dr. Jayla Carter.”
Kaiden stared at her.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Jayla: “I’m the doctor trying to keep you alive.”

Jayla frowned.
Jayla: “I’m Jayla Marie Carter.”
Kaiden’s wolf growled inside him.

Kaiden tried to keep his expression calm.
Kaiden: “You don’t know who I am, do you?”
Jayla: “Should I?”
Mia walked over with the monitor.
Mia: “Doctor, his vitals are stabilizing.”
Jayla: “Good.”

Kaiden: “You really don’t know.”

Before he could answer, the hospital doors opened again.
A group of heavily guarded men entered.

Kaiden nodded.
Kaiden: “Yes.”
Jayla stepped back.
Jayla: “And nobody thought that information was important?”
Kaiden almost laughed.
Kaiden: “I was unconscious.”
Jayla: “Fair point.”
Elijah suddenly looked between them suspiciously.
Elijah: “Your Majesty… why is your wolf staring at her like that?”
Kaiden’s expression became serious.
Kaiden: “Because my wolf recognizes her.”
