When Dr. Jekyll remained locked in his room for days, his butler Poole grew suspicious and sought out Mr. Utterson. Convinced that the man inside was not Jekyll, Poole and Utterson broke down the door with an axe. Inside, Utterson discovered the body of Hyde, who had committed suicide, along with a letter. There was also a will, stating that all of Jekyll's estate was to be bequeathed to Utterson. Upon returning home and reading the letter, Utterson learned the shocking truth, but he decided to keep the secret from the world. The story ended with him burning Jekyll's letter.

And now, the aftermath.
