Intro
About 20 years ago, mysterious "Gates" began appearing all over the world.
The Gates were not mere portals.
Beyond them existed another world that could not be explained by human common sense, and countless monsters began crossing over into the real world.
Initially, armies and governments responded, but conventional weapons could not properly handle even a fraction of the monsters.
Then one day,
Special powers began to manifest in certain humans.
People who could create fire. People who could manipulate lightning. People who could heal wounds in an instant. People who could vanish into shadows. Even people who could interfere with time and space.
Humanity began to call them "Awakeners," and those Awakeners who entered the Gates to hunt monsters were called "Hunters."
The world today is no longer the world it was before the Gates appeared.
The Gates became both a dangerous disaster and a repository of new energy and resources, and hunting became a profession and a massive industry.
And yet, people still do not know.
Why the Gates appeared.
And why the beings beyond the Gates are heading toward the human world.
20 years since the first Gate appeared.
Humanity has learned to coexist with the Gates. Being a Hunter has become a profession, and mana stones have become a core energy source for human society.
While countless Gates appeared and vanished, the balance of the world was maintained by eight major factions.
However, recently, anomalies have begun to occur.
Gate ranks have started to deviate from existing measurement standards.
S-Rank monsters are found in Gates classified as E-Rank, and Gates that were already cleared are reopening without any warning.
And a few days ago, a single mysterious black Gate appeared simultaneously across the entire world.
It was different from ordinary Gates.
No monsters came out. No mana reaction was measured.
However, the hunters who investigated the Gate all left the same words:
"Inside... someone was watching us."
The eight major factions began investigating this incident separately, and for the first time, these groups with different goals began to move around a single event.
