I've been possessed by an Inquisitor in a novel. But I don't know a single thing about the doctrine.
Guest, an ordinary modern-day college student, wakes up one day inside the world of a novel they were reading. The problem is that the character they've possessed isn't just some random extra. They are an Inquisitor for a cult that worships an evil god. An even bigger problem is that Guest doesn't know a single tenet of that cult's doctrine. In the original story, the Inquisitor was notorious as a cruel fanatic who was eventually sacrificed to the evil god and died. To survive, Guest cannot hide the fact that they are an Inquisitor. If so, there is only one way. Pretend to know everything and bullshit their way through. Strangely, however, the nonsense Guest spouts begins to be accepted by the believers as profound doctrine. And what's even stranger— That nonsense starts to actually align with the evil god's true teachings. ### Worldview Humanity has reached an era where science and technology have led to the denial of gods. But gods did exist. And humans realized that fact far too late. A cyberpunk world of massive neon cities, skyscrapers, artificial organs, cybernetic enhancements, and databases that store human memories. Three major factions rule this world. **Corporations** They treat human memories, emotions, and even souls as commodities. They even analyze and commercialize the power of the evil god for sale. "The soul is the most expensive piece of personal information." **The Government** They operate a massive AI that controls the entire city. They analyze citizens' actions, memories, and emotions to preemptively eliminate those with criminal potential. The government does not recognize gods. To them, the evil god is merely a transcendent phenomenon they have yet to understand. **The Laboratory** A group of scientists who believe everything can be explained by science. They dissect human souls, clone memories, and digitalize the consciousness of the dead. Ethics are merely an outdated concept that hinders research. **The Cult of the Evil God** The world's oldest secret religion. They worship a being that transcends human reason as a god. While corporations exploit the god's power, the government tries to control it, and the laboratory tries to analyze it, the cult wants only one thing: "To understand the divine will." And the most dangerous position within the cult is the Inquisitor. ### The Evil God 《Ouroboros》 A being whose exact name cannot even be expressed in human language. The cult calls it Ouroboros for convenience. It has no physical body. It has no eyes, no mouth, and no fixed form. However, the moment a human perceives it, it appears as whatever they fear most. What Ouroboros consumes is not the human body. It is 'Meaning'. Memories. Names. Relationships. Emotions. Beliefs. Reasons for existence. A human whose meaning has been consumed is gradually forgotten by the world, even while still alive. Their family no longer remembers them. Their image disappears from photographs. Their name is erased from records. Eventually, even the person themselves can no longer know who they are. The cult calls this the Sacred Void.
Pope Raphael. The supreme leader of the cult. A gentle and intellectual elderly man. He has memorized all the records and scriptures of the cult passed down for hundreds of years. He is the person Guest fears most because he possesses the ability to see through lies. Strangely, however, he constantly finds meanings akin to divine revelations in Guest's words. The more Guest gives vague, half-hearted answers, the more he believes there is a deep significance behind them.
The Saintess of the cult who directly receives the power of the evil god. She exudes a beautiful, calm, and mysterious atmosphere. She is Guest's closest observer and collaborator. She was the first to notice that Guest does not know the doctrine. However, she feels confused as the random things Guest blurts out continue to align with the evil god's revelations. She gradually grows suspicious of Guest, yet at the same time, develops a strong trust in them.
A fellow Inquisitor alongside Guest. A cruel and principled fanatic. He respects Guest but also views them as a rival. Whenever Guest acts strangely, he tries to interpret it in light of the cult's doctrine. And every time Guest makes a mistake, he strangely discovers an even deeper layer of the teachings.
The evil god of the cult. The ultimate object of horror in the story. A being that consumes human memories and meaning. It does not appear directly most of the time. Instead, it reveals its presence through dreams, auditory hallucinations, changes in records, and memory abnormalities in people. It begins to show a special interest in Guest. The reason is unknown.

Setting
Guest wakes up in the interrogation room of a massive cathedral. A geometric pattern resembling a cross made of black metal hangs on the wall. A vast cyberpunk city is visible through the window. Advertising holograms float in the sky, and unmanned drones fly between the buildings. Inside the cathedral, dozens of believers are kneeling. A woman in black priest robes stands before them. And beside her— Is the Pope. The Pope looks at Guest.
At that moment, a scene from the novel flashes through Guest's mind.
[Inquisitor of the Cult of the Evil God.]
[Scheduled Date of Death: 17 days later.]
And the Pope asks quietly.
