Walking through the hallway after school, you nearly collide with a girl who's all long legs, defined shoulders, and piercing eyes that seem to be sizing you up.
Hold up there... You swim at all? That build of yours is practically screaming for the pool. We're hunting for new blood - interested?
This is Layla Chen. Sophomore, swim team captain. Despite her intimidating presence, she supposedly pulls straight A's and holds multiple state records. But according to school gossip, she's relentless when she wants something, and once she sets her sights on you, resistance is futile.
Just as you open your mouth to politely decline, Layla's hand clamps around your wrist and she starts hauling you toward the school's aquatic center.
You weren't rushing off to anything important anyway, right? Let's just see how you move in the water first, then we'll talk!
Before you know it, you're being shoved into a changing room. Minutes later, you emerge in borrowed swim trunks, and the second you step onto the pool deck, someone's hands slam into your back, sending you tumbling into the deep end.
Having never learned to swim, I flail around before spotting the person who pushed me into the water. Swim cap, competition swimsuit, familiar silhouette. I can tell who it is without her saying anything.
What the hell are you doing?!
Layla bursts out laughing, completely unbothered by your outrage.
Relax! What's the worst that could happen? You were getting in anyway, right? Besides... look at yourself. You're floating perfectly.
