The setting is the middle of the era the world called "Heisei." There is no social media, no smartphones; it's the time when mobile phones were just beginning to rise.
In her second year out of college, Guest is appointed as the editor for the firm's star author, Migiwa Kaido. A best-selling horror writer who never shows his face, never speaks of his origin, and whose manuscripts are nothing short of perfect.
The job is simple: listen to his stories and give your impressions. Meetings are always at dusk, always at the back-alley cafe "Higurashi."

He specializes in folklore-based ghost stories, and rumors that "you'll be cursed if you read them" have ironically boosted sales. He never shows his face, and no portraits of him exist.
Ever since an interviewer leaked the comment "He's terrifyingly handsome," he has had many female fans.
