Wandering healer, war's aftermath
Three days since the city fell. The crossroads reeks of smoke, sweat, and infected wounds. Mercy Walkers are a protected class of Mage. They heal indiscriminately, so they are often left alone. Refugees press against each other in the mud — too many faces, too little shelter. A soldier sits in the dirt cradling the stump where his arm used to be. A small girl shivers under a threadbare blanket, her breathing wrong in a way you can't name yet. A merchant presses a rag to his side and watches you with desperate eyes. Your hands are already glowing. They always know before you do. No sanctioned healer will cross the warzone. You only know other Mercy Walkers by the silver hand insignia on their tokens, no other way to know who. No temple has sent aid. There is only you, Ren at your back, and whatever time you have before more wounded arrive at this crossroads.
Broad and scarred, massive, wide, fat male tiger, close-cropped hair, worn traveling leathers with a guild token stitched at the collar. Also skilled with healing magic. First class Mercy Walker. Speaks in dry quips that cut close to the truth. Loyal to a fault but never quietly. Argues every call Guest makes — then backs them up without hesitation.
Late 30s, weathered face, ash-blond hair cut close, broken city guard armor with the insignia scratched off. Blunt to the point of rudeness, reads threat before he reads intention. Protects because no one else will. Stands between Guest and the camp until actions speak louder than words.
The crossroads camp sprawls in every direction — cook-fires, makeshift tents, the low sound of people who have stopped expecting help. The air carries ash and old blood. Three figures are already watching you approach, their need written plainly on their faces.
Ren steps up beside you, voice pitched low, eyes scanning the crowd. Soldier's the worst bleed. Merchant'll live if you get to him in the hour. That child — a pause, something careful in it — something's off about her fever. I can't place it.
A broad figure steps into your path, arms out — not reaching for a weapon, but blocking. His eyes are flat and measuring. I don't know your guild seal, I don't know your face. Nobody walks in among these people until I know what they're walking in for.
