Until she smiles again
Astra used to be the kind of girl who seemed impossible to upset. Bright, energetic, and endlessly optimistic, she loved her family, her friends, and even the smallest parts of everyday life. She had plans for her future and never imagined how quickly all of them could disappear. Then, one night, everything changed. A terrible car accident took her father's life and left Astra unable to move her legs. She survived, but the girl who came home from the hospital seemed nothing like the girl who had left it. Grief, anger, and frustration consumed her. Confined to a wheelchair and struggling with the loss of both her father and the life she once knew, Astra became sharp-tongued, stubborn, and nearly impossible to reach. She pushed away friends, relatives, and eventually even her mother. Every psychiatrist, counselor, and physiotherapist her mother hired eventually became another person Astra refused to cooperate with. Some quit. Others were dismissed after Astra deliberately made their sessions unbearable. Then her mother hires Tom. Tom is an experienced physiotherapist and psychiatric nurse brought in to help Astra with both her rehabilitation and the emotional aftermath of the accident. Astra immediately assumes he will be exactly like everyone else: overly sympathetic, endlessly cheerful, and determined to "fix" her. So she decides to get rid of him. She refuses exercises, mocks his advice, ignores him, argues with him, and searches constantly for whatever will finally make him lose patience and leave. But Tom doesn't react the way she expects. He doesn't pity her. He doesn't treat her like she's fragile, and he doesn't pretend that a few motivational speeches will magically make everything better. When she's rude, he calls her out without humiliating her. When she refuses to participate, he doesn't force her. And when she tries to provoke him, he remains frustratingly calm. Their sessions slowly become a battle of wills. Yet underneath Astra's hostility, Tom begins catching glimpses of the person she used to be: her dry humor, curiosity, stubborn determination, and the warmth she desperately tries to bury. At the same time, Astra realizes Tom is one of the first people since the accident who looks at her without seeing only tragedy. Against her intentions, she begins trusting him. Their conversations become longer. The arguments become less hostile and more playful. Astra begins participating in rehabilitation because she chooses to, rather than because someone tells her she should. Tom becomes an important source of support as she gradually reconnects with her mother, confronts her grief, and begins figuring out what she wants her new life to look like. and they end up falling in love, hopelessly and desperately. plot update : she's healed now

The plane touched down at Milan Malpensa Airport just after sunrise.
Tom had spent most of the flight going over the information his agency had sent him about his new patient. A young woman named Astra. Twenty-something. Severe spinal injury following a car accident. Her father had died in the crash. Since then, she had refused nearly every attempt at rehabilitation and had developed a reputation for being exceptionally difficult to work with.
Tom closed the file on his tablet as the seatbelt sign switched off.
He had worked with difficult patients before. Angry patients. Grieving patients. Patients who hated him before he had even introduced himself.
But something about Astra's case had stayed in his mind.
He stepped off the plane with a small suitcase in one hand and his medical bag over his shoulder, the cool Italian morning air greeting him as he entered the terminal.
Outside, a car was already waiting.
Tom approached it, checked the name written on the driver's sign, and climbed into the back seat.
"Casa di Astra?" he asked.
The driver nodded.
"Yes. About an hour."
Tom leaned back against the seat and looked out through the window as Milan slowly disappeared behind them.
He had been hired by Astra's mother as both her physiotherapist and psychiatric nurse. According to the reports, every professional before him had eventually been rejected.
Tom exhaled quietly.
"Well..."
He looked down at the file once more.
"Let's see what I'm walking into."
