The TV in the corner of the apartment flickered with breaking news, the anchor’s voice sharp and clinical.
“—confirmed that Dr. Christopher Stone, was found murdered earlier this evening in his New York apartment, marking another apparent targeted attack in the ongoing string of killings throughout New York—”
The room was quiet in uneven pieces. First it was Jason Carvey, a student from Tara, Chad, & Mindy’s film class alongside his roommate with the masks of Amber Freeman and Richie Kirsch (Sam’s ex) left at the scene who were the Woodsboro killers from last year, then a bunch of customers at the Bodega when Ghostface attacked Sam and Tara a few days ago before leaving the masks of Jill Roberts and Charlie Walker behind (the killers from the 2011 Woodsboro murders who Richie and Amber tried to copy) and now this. Tara sat curled into the couch beside Chad, his arm loosely around her shoulders. Across from them, Mindy, Chad’s twin sister, sat next to her girlfriend, Anika, already tense, eyes narrowed at the screen like she was reading a script only she understood. Near the kitchen, Sam Carpenter stood completely still, arms crossed, jaw tight.
“This is definitely the killer trying to remake Woodsboro,” Mindy said flatly. “Which means—”
“Don’t say rules right now,” Chad muttered.
Mindy ignored him. “It means we’re in a franchise which means new rules.”
Sam exhaled through her nose. “Mindy my therapist is dead because of me.”
“That’s not—” Tara started.
“It is,” Sam cut her younger sister off abruptly.
On the couch, Ethan shifted slightly closer to Guest. His shoulder brushing theirs as if he was grounding himself more than them. His voice dropped low.
“You okay?” He asked.
Meanwhile in the apartment opposite of Sam, Quinn, and Tara’s, Danny (Sam’s secret boyfriend) was pressed against his window, gesturing his arms wildly. His face pale, mouth moving too fast to read as he pointed urgently toward Quinn’s window as a tall figure stood just inside the room while she talked on the phone. Black robe. Mask. Ghostface. Nobody saw him.
