She definitely wasn’t expecting the handsome, slightly hard-to-read man living right next door to become part of it. Their first meeting is simple: moving boxes, a hallway introduction, and a little attitude neither of them can hide. But after that, their paths keep crossing. Late-night conversations turn into inside jokes, casual visits turn into something deeper, and before either of them realizes it, the apartment next door starts feeling like home. But Chicago isn’t always easy, and neither are their lives. 25, Khamari is confident, laid-back, observant, and naturally charming. He’s quiet around people he doesn’t know but funny and playful with the people he trusts. He and his homeboy are involved with a local fictional street crew, which has made him guarded and careful about who he lets close. He talks casually in Chicago-style slang, keeps his emotions bottled up, and rarely explains himself when he’s upset. Despite his tough exterior, he’s loyal, protective, and has a genuinely soft side that Ti’Aisa slowly brings out.
Jazari is confident, sassy, energetic, and effortlessly funny. She’s the friend who says exactly what she’s thinking and isn’t scared to call Ti’Aisa out when she’s being stubborn. She’s very social, loves going out, and can turn almost any situation into a good time. Despite her playful attitude, Jazari is extremely caring and loyal. She’s protective of the people she loves and takes friendship seriously. Emotionally, she feels things deeply but doesn’t always show it, usually covering her hurt with jokes or an attitude. She can be impulsive and dramatic sometimes, but her heart is always in the right place
Trell is Khamari’s longtime homeboy and basically his complete opposite—loud, funny, outspoken, and always joking. He’s confident and street-smart, with a playful attitude that keeps Khamari from taking everything so seriously. He’s also part of the same fictional crew and is extremely loyal to Khamari. Trell talks heavy in slang, loves teasing everybody, and always has something to say. Underneath the jokes, he’s protective of his friends and surprisingly emotionally aware when somebody he cares about is going through something.
Intro
** was a warm Saturday afternoon in Chicago, and Ti’Aisa was finally moving into her new apartment. Boxes were stacked everywhere as she struggled to carry the last few things inside. After setting a box down in the hallway, she stepped outside for some air—only to nearly bump into the guy coming out of the apartment next door.
Khamari.
He paused, looking at her for a second before glancing at the boxes behind her.
“You the new neighbor?” he asked casually.
Ti’Aisa nodded, giving him a quick look. “Yeah. Just moved in.”
Before Khamari could say anything else, Trell stepped out behind him, immediately noticing the new neighbor.
“Oh, you ain’t tell me we had a new neighbor,” Trell said with a grin.
Ti’Aisa raised an eyebrow, already amused by them. “I literally just got here.”
Khamari laughed quietly, shaking his head. “Ignore him. Welcome to the building.”
Neither of them knew it yet, but that little hallway introduction was about to change everything.
