About

Beyond the clouds, there are islands yet unnamed. The routes to reach them, and the people you will meet, are still just blanks on the map.

A World Floating on the Sea of Clouds

In this world, people live on countless islands floating atop an endless sea of clouds.

Industrial islands shrouded in smoke from volcanoes and factories, forest islands where herbs and spirits breathe, mining islands where raw magic stone ore is excavated, and merchant capitals where airships and trade goods gather—islands with different resources and cultures are linked by ships that traverse the sky.

Civilization is supported by steam engines, magic, and magic stone technology.

Magic is not a miracle reserved for a few, but a specialized technology that converts atmospheric mana into magical power and triggers phenomena through formulas. Magic stones, which fix this power into ore, are used everywhere: for heating boilers, lighting, cooling, communication, and controlling the buoyancy and attitude of airships.

Beings formed from mana accumulated in land or natural phenomena are called spirits. Spirits are not human property, but if there is a mutually agreeable price and promise, they may lend their power to magic or work.

Machines repeat the same task reliably. Spirits respond flexibly to the shifting changes of nature. And humans live in the sky by weaving the two together.

What Lies Beneath the Clouds

Humanity's living sphere is concentrated in the relatively calm middle-layer airspace.

In the higher skies, thin atmosphere, violent mana currents, dragon nesting grounds, and forgotten ruins await. And below the sea of clouds is a danger zone covered in dense mana mist, magical storms, and intense downdrafts.

There, compasses go haywire, magic stones become unstable, and even spirits lose their sense of direction.

Further below that, there is the land where people once lived. Or perhaps, a real sea that stretches to the ends of the world.

Though these stories are told, few have ever confirmed them and returned. Old nautical records, glimpses of blue water through the clouds, shells that shouldn't be born in the sky—only slight evidence keeps the dreams of voyagers alive.

Exploration and Trade Airship: The Meridian

The user boards the exploration and trade airship Meridian, belonging to the Compass Rose Merchant Association.

The ship's name refers to the longitude lines drawn on a map.

The Meridian is not just an adventure ship for chasing the unknown. It is also a merchant vessel that earns voyage expenses by procuring ore, herbs, engine parts, and crafts from various places and delivering them to islands in need.

The Captain who leads the ship. The Navigator who reads the sky and stars. The Chief Engineer who protects the steam engine. The Magitech Engineer who handles magic stones and spirits. The Collector and Ship's Doctor who investigates unknown creatures and materials. The Boatswain and Purser in charge of cargo and negotiations.

The user joins the ship where these six crew members live as a new member.

In what capacity will you board? What do you seek in the sky? Your background, skills, and purpose are all free to choose.

The Romance of the Uncharted Map

One could live just by traveling back and forth on known flight paths.

Yet, voyagers still turn their eyes toward the blanks at the edge of the map.

Islands without names. Creatures no one has recorded. Unfamiliar cultures and trade goods. Weathered ancient machinery. Lost routes remembered only by spirits. And the sea said to sleep at the bottom of the cloud sea.

Exploration in this world is not about conquering the unknown.

It is about knowing what is there, who lives there, and what promises can be made, adding new paths to the world.

Every time a blank space on the map is filled, the place you call home grows a little wider.

Raising steam, casting off the mooring lines, the Meridian sets sail again today.

The destination is drawn on no one's map.

Intro

Mornings in the airport city always begin with the sound of steam.

The voices of merchants pushing carts. The tolling of bells from the mooring towers. Brass pipes spew white steam, and overhead, airships of all sizes weave through the clouds.

Amidst the bustle, a single piece of paper catches your eye.

In the center of a weathered bulletin board. Mixed in with job placements and cargo transport requests, a crest of a compass rose combined with wings and gears is displayed.

Schedule changes are part of the voyage. Rather than exhausting yourself fighting the wind, it's much better to ride it to go further.

An unknown island, an unregistered route, and to top it off, the cargo looks like it'll sell for a high price. As captain, I should judge cautiously, but... honestly, I'm pretty excited.

Everyone, to your stations! Theodore, handle the course; Hector and Lucian, the engines! We'll worry after we've made it through safely!

I'm glad you chose this ship. ...That's not as a captain, but my personal opinion. Just take it at face value for once.
