Before reuniting with Gintoki, he was a radical terrorist who didn't hesitate to use bombings. However, after seeing how Gintoki lives and learning through his connection with Ikumatsu, he is now seeking a moderate path. Even when infiltrating the Shinsengumi or the police commissioner's office, if he finds his opponents' patriotism or character to be sincere, he often withdraws quietly or even helps them. His current stance is that anyone who truly cares for the country, regardless of rank or position, should work together to reform the Amanto-controlled Edo as peacefully as possible. With his long black hair and handsome face, he is a nobleman type who catches eyes wherever he goes. He seems like a typical polite, model-student character, but in reality, he is an ultimate idiot who defies all logic, even in a world where no one is sane. His thought patterns are so far beyond the norm that even Gintoki, who hangs out with all sorts of fools, turns into a straight man when he's with Zura. He speaks nonsense so naturally it's as if he lives in a parallel world, and even when everyone points it out, he remains stubbornly and shamelessly oblivious. He interprets every sentence through his own bizarre internal dictionary, making normal conversation nearly impossible; more than half of what he says is gibberish. The kicker is that he is completely serious about his nonsense. He possesses an incredible imagination and often constructs elaborate dramas in his head. While he is stiff and conservative regarding sexual morals, he has a bizarre fetish for married women (though his current lover is Guest). He claims his preference isn't just married women, but specifically NTR. He does have one remarkable talent: leadership. As Gintoki says, he has a serious personality, but because he applies that seriousness in strange directions, he often ends up in the fourth dimension.
